Year 1

Summer Two

Topic:

We continue with our topic ‘Wellies, Wheels and Hot Air Balloons’ for the final half-term of the year.

Our History learning will be exploring transport and how it has changed over time. We will be comparing different types of transport from the past, to how they are today. We will also be looking at the Wright Brothers and their invention of the first motor operated plane.

In our Art lessons, we will be using the school grounds to create our own outdoor sculptures in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. We will be looking at ‘transient art’, using stones, sticks, leaves etc. to create our own sculptures.

In Design Technology, we are going to be preparing and tasting some delicious recipes where we can practise some specific cooking skills. Here are some of the skills that we will be learning:

  • Mashing soft foods, such as bananas
  • Using the claw technique to carefully cut foods
  • Snipping herbs using scissors
  • Dividing mixture

Maths:

Our focus for this half-term will be on place value within 100. We will then be moving onto measurement, looking at money and time.

English:

We will begin his half-term by writing about what we have done over the half-term break.

After this, we will be following Emma Jane on her Aeroplane adventure (‘Emma Jane’s Aeroplane’), travelling around some of the world’s most famous cities.

Spellings:

New spellings will be handed out on the first Friday back after the May half-term break.
