Relationships and Sex Education

PSHE, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) at Eastfield

As of September 2021, Relationships or Relationship Education has become statutory in primary schools. This means that all schools have to teach its content. It is considered really good practice to review a school’s provision periodically to ensure the lessons you provide meet the needs of the children you teach and the changes in society. This has just recently been undertaken in our school.

At Eastfield, PSHE and RSE lessons are delivered through a scheme called Kapow, which brings together PSHE and RSE education. Our lessons aim to provide children with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that they need to navigate the complexities of life in the 21st Century. The curriculum covers key areas which will support the children to make informed choices now and in the future around their health, safety, wellbeing, relationships and financial matters. Kapow Primary’s RSE/PSHE scheme of work covers the relationship and statutory guidance (as set out by the Department for Education), including the non-statutory sex education.

We deliver our PSHE and RSE curriculum with a child centred approach ensuring content is taught in an age and developmentally appropriate way for our children. We cover wider PSHE learning in line with the National curriculum requirements and are responsive to our children’s needs. We believe this is the best approach to support our children’s personal development, ensuring they can become well rounded, confident individuals and active members of society. In addition, we promote the five British Values which reflect life in modern Britain: democracy; rule of law; respect and tolerance and individual liberty.
