Curriculum at Eastfield

EYFS Overview     |     KS1 Overview     |     KS2 Overview

At Eastfield Primary School, we are proud to have a curriculum that is engaging, exciting and encompasses all curriculum areas, helping to ensure that our children develop the knowledge and skills they need to excel, and become creative and curious citizens.  Our aim is to create awe and wonder so that our children have a thirst for knowledge. Each topic enables the children to develop their skills and knowledge across a range of subjects and provides the opportunity for them to take responsibility for developing their own learning following lines of enquiry. Staff have the opportunity to work with leaders to identify how lessons reflect the children’s previous learning and ambitious future outcomes.

Each of our curriculum topics has an end goal where the children create something individually or as a class.  We incorporate our ‘Character Counts’ statements through our topics and include a focus on having a healthy body and a healthy mind.  As a school, we understand the importance of British values, Spirituality and the challenges our environment is facing and incorporate these in our planning.  At Eastfield, we are fortunate to have a fabulous setting for outdoor learning and try to include this as much as possible.

We are committed to teaching our children about equality, diversity and inclusion.  We believe that equality is about equal opportunities for all and protecting people from being discriminated against. Diversity is about recognising respecting and valuing differences in people. Inclusion is about an individual’s experience within school, our community and in a wider society, as well as the extent to which they feel valued and included. Equality, diversity and inclusion underpin our work and is also taught discretely to children through PSHE lessons, whole school assemblies, theme weeks and days and termly reflection and review opportunities.

Our goal is to create a school community where equality is a right for all, diversity is celebrated and as a result an inclusive and caring community is built.

Our English and Maths curriculum is broad, balanced and creative, going beyond the classroom and permeating throughout our curriculum. We understand the importance of a vocabulary-rich curriculum, and English is a strong feature of all lessons which is essential to help develop the key skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening.

At Eastfield, we want the children to become good citizens, playing a positive role within the school and local community as well as understanding the role they play in shaping the world at large.

At Eastfield we regularly review and amend our delivery of topic to ensure that coverage is current and that we are respond to local and national trends.
